Jon Rahm FUMING after "horrible" second-round finish at Phoenix Open
Rahm irate after throwing away shots on closing holes at TPC Scottsdale.
Jon Rahm was left fuming after finishing his second round of the Phoenix Open with two bogeys on the final three holes.
Rahm drained five consecutive birdies from the 11th to move right into contention for the tournament, but then bogeyed the iconic par-3 16th when going long with his tee shot and then making another bogey on the 18th when failing to get up and down from short of the green.
"Obviously, it was just a horrible finish, I don’t know what to say," said Rahm.
"It’s just a bad way to finish. Could not be an easier finish, but to finish 2-over par on those three holes, yeah, that pisses me off."
Rahm currently lies 7-under par for the tournament and six strokes off the halfway pace set by JB Holmes on 13-under par.
Holmes has previous form here having won this event at TPC Scottsdale in both 2006 and 2008 when it was known as the FBR Open.
Wyndham Clark is one stroke back on 12-under par with Billy Horschel and Byeong hun An on 11-under par.
Scott Piercy is on 10-under par, with Hudson Swafford and Nate Lashley on 9-under par.
Webb Simspon shot the round of the day with an impressive 8-under 63 and he is joined by Xander Schauffele, Adam Long and Branden Grace, who finished runner-up in this event to Rickie Fowler 12 months ago.
Rahm is joined by Bubba Watson, Tony Finau, Keith Mitchell and CT Pan on 7-under par.
Defending champion Fowler recovered from a disastrous 3-over par start but he is still well off the pace on 3-under par in a tie for 40th.
