"Gary Player took it out on me in the locker room," tweets blocked golf pro
"The man is a disgusting human being without apology, conscience or integrity."
Professional golfer Gary Evans has reeled off a series of tweets declaring his dislike of Gary Player, after the nine-time major champion blocked him on Twitter this morning.
After being blocked on social media, Evans, best remembered for going close to winning the 2002 Open Championship at Muirfield before finishing tied fifth, wrote a number of tweets reflecting on how he lost all admiration for the South African when he ruined one the biggest moments of his career ahead of a practice round at the 1989 Open at Royal Troon.
Evans explained how he was scheduled to play alongside his childhood heroes Player and Seve Ballesteros, as well as Gordon J Brand on the Wednesday, only for Player to oust Evans in favour of Sandy Lyle on the first tee.
The Englishman, who was just a fresh-faced 20-year-old amateur at the time, then opened up as to how Player "chose to take it out on me in the locker room in an extremely aggressive manner which left me in bits."
He also went into details how something similar happened again during the 1991 Open.

You screwed me at the 89 Open, then again in the 91 Open, you're just a nasty little man whose favourite subject is himself. #goswing pic.twitter.com/2GO6ehbVZI

The GP incidents are too long to go into on here but were covered very well by the press at the time without my participation.

Let's just say that as a young naive 20 yr old who had GP as a hero of mine, my view after a traumatic 2 days changed dramatically.

No, I was meant to play with him, Seve and Gordon J Brand on Wed but he ousted me on the 1st tee in favour of Lyle, who wasn't on startsheet https://t.co/PBU4u0EkPY

Without my knowledge the press caught wind of what he did and had a go at him in the papers the next day. After the 1st round he sought me..

out and without going into detail, chose to take it out on me in the locker room in an extremely aggressive manner which left me in bits.

Seve was a gentleman and apologised to me on the 1st tee. The 500 people around the 1st tee witnessed it which I assume is how press heard

about how GP spoke to the starter and myself. The man is a disgusting human being without apology, conscience or integrity.

The snub I got over straightaway but his attack on me in the locker room was utterly despicable.

In 91 I chose to play my practice round with 2 other amateurs as I was still amateur at the time. Guess who appeared with 20 photographers

On the 1st tee? GP, "can I join you boys" what was I going to do, say No and then be made to look like a prat? Self promotion, that's what

It was all about. It was horrendous.
