Fowler sidelined by torn oblique

Rickie Fowler has withdrawn from next week’s Northern Trust Open after it was confirmed he has suffered a partial tear in his right oblique, a muscle on the outside of the abdomen.

The Californian has been playing through the pain in his last two tournaments, but is keen to rest ahead of the FedEx Cup Playoffs and Ryder Cup at the end of September.

Fowler, 29, picked up the injury playing the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.

The Northern Trust is the first event of the season-ending FedEx Cup Playoffs which offers up $10m dollars to the winner of the last event of the season, the Tour Championship.

 

 

News got out last week that I was dealing with an oblique injury the past two tournaments...it was confirmed yesterday, via MRI, that I have a partial tear in my right oblique...my team and I feel like it’s best not to play next week in the Northern Trust...I will be back healthy and competitive ASAP for the FedEx Cup and more than ready for the Ryder Cup!!
