Mizuno announces new S5 wedge

Mizuno's new S5 wedge give players the option of adding a splash of colour to their bags.

The club is available in a Blue IP (plated) finish, which wears over time without reducing the club's durability, or golfers can stick with the popular White Satin style.

The CNC Quad Cut Grooves are wider and shallower in the 54 to 62 degree wedges, while deeper and narrower grooves are used in 49 to 53 degrees to ensure maximum spin on full and partial shots.

The S5 has a midsize profile, and comes with a variety of grinds which are designed to work from every lie.

The profile and sole grinds combine with a slightly rounded top line, allowing the wedges to be opened or closed while still aligned to the target.

The S5 benefits from a Grain Flow forged clubhead, made from single billet of 1025E Pure Select Mild Carbon steel.

“These S5 wedges are more of a midsize profile, so there’s a lot more clubface for fuller shots,” says Chris Voshall, Mizuno club engineer.

“They’re less intimidating when you’re faced with 95 yards from a less-than-perfect lie. They went straight into Luke Donald’s bag in May, which suggests we did a pretty good job with the sole grinds and versatility around the greens.”
