Barnard Castle mini-golf course set for £10,000 REVAMP
Once the site of a major political scandal, now Barnard Castle has turned its attention to the mini-golf course which has been in need of rejuvenation.
After becoming an unexpected British landmark in 2020, Barnard Castle is set to undertake a large investment in their mini-golf course.
The town councillors are hoping that the £10,000 revamp of the mini-golf course will help to attract more visitors in the winter and looking ahead to the summer.
As reported by the Teesdale Mercury, the services committee consulted the developments they would like to make and decided on the inclusion of a lucky hole at the end of the game.
Players will hit a ball up a ramp into the shed before it drops down a wall. The ball will drop into either a winner's or loser's pocket.

Barnard Castle's rejuvenated course will "add excitement, give opportunities to win freebies and ensure the ball isn't taken by the players."
The plans also include "extra decor" on the Egglestone Abbey, Witham and bridge holes. The work will be carried out by Urban Crazy which first installed the course in 2014.
The total cost will be between £9,240 and £10,800 and town clerk Martin Clark the Barnard Castle mini-golf course has paid for itself.
Profits have been ploughed back into maintenance, staff and improvements. The council reported that the highest number of visitors on one day rose to 78 in 2021.

"The usage of the course is dependent on the weather. For 2021, there were 68 operating days. The course did not experience any particularly bad weather days and there was a mix up of attendants shifts on two occasions with closure for one half-shift," the town council's report read.
Last year Barnard Castle made a profit of £6,788. In 2020, the town was in the centre of a political scandal when Prime Minister Boris Johnson's advisor Dominic Cummings allegedly travelled to Durham and broke Covid-19 travel restrictions.
