New major champion says she might buy LPGA Tour player's house!
The newest major winner in golf might buy another LPGA Tour player's house with her winnings!
Ruoning Yin shot a steady 67 Sunday at Baltusrol Golf Club to win the KPMG Women's PGA Championship on the LPGA Tour.
It marked her first major championship title and second LPGA Tour victory. With it, Yin also took home a lucrative $1.5m paycheck from the $10m purse.
And now, the 20-year-old has her sights set on a big first post-major purchase: another LPGA Tour player's home!
Back on Thursday, following her first round in New Jersey, World No. 14 Xiyu Lin told reporters that she was technically Yin's current landlord.
"She lives in my house. She rented my old house," Lin said. "Unfortunately we've been dealing with some draining problems, so when I see her, I always feel so sorry, not with the golf but it's like the toilet is clogged or something."
She added:
The 27-year-old joked that after Yin earned her first LPGA Tour victory at the LA Open back in March, she was thinking of raising the rent accordingly.
Now, Lin might not have to worry about rent for too much longer, because following her win on Sunday, Yin joked that her new goal was to buy the house off of her fellow tour pro.
Yin was asked by a reporter following her victory if she thought her rent would see an increase.
"Oh, wow. Actually I'm thinking about buy her house right now," Yin joked. "Yeah, just think about it."
Yin shot rounds of 67, 73, 69 and 67 to hold off Yuka Saso by one stroke with a winning total score of 8-under par.
Lin was part of the group two-strokes back at 6-under, along with Carlota Ciganda, Anna Nordquist, Megan Khang, and Stephanie Meadow.
Another 20-year-old, Rose Zhang, who won in her professional LPGA Tour debut a few weeks ago, finished tied for eighth at 5-under after a late Sunday charge.
The next LPGA Tour major is just over a week away as the women head to the historic Pebble Beach for the US Women's Open.
