CONFIRMED: Phil Mickelson names his 2023 LIV Golf League side
Phil Mickelson has named the players who will be competing in his Hy Flyers GC side ahead of the 2023 LIV Golf League, which kicks off in Mexico.
Phil Mickelson has named his Hy Flyers GC side that will compete in the 2023 LIV Golf League.
Brendan Steele was confirmed as the latest player to bolt from the PGA Tour to the Saudi-backed circuit.
Mickelson has also named the former U.S. Amateur champion James Piot in his team. American Cameron Tringale retains his place in the side.
Piot, 24, and Steele, 39, replace Matthew Wolff and the Austrian Bernd Wiesberger, who has jumped over to Martin Kaymer's Cleeks GC.
The $405m season gets underway in Mexico at El Camaleón Golf Course over 24-26 February.
The news comes as:
- Hudson Swafford has confirmed he is likely to miss the entire season through injury
- Steele's previous comments about having 'no interest' in joining LIV have resurfaced
Former Ryder Cup star Thomas Pieters is expected to be announced as a LIV player shortly. It is not known which side he is joining.
Kevin Na and Louis Oosthuizen are still yet to name the players in their sides.
If rumours are true that Pieters is to sign, he would be the highest-ranked player to join LIV in the off-season.
Pieters, 31, is a six-time winner on the European-based DP World Tour.
The Belgian recently expressed dismay at not being invited to Tiger Woods' PGA Tour event.
LIV were expected to name their entire roster for 2023 last week as Woods, 47, played for the first time in seven months.
Whilst LIV Golf now boast a number of major winners in their ranks, it is fair to say the fledgling circuit would've liked another 'marquee' signing.
Some fans on social media felt Mickelson's Hy Flyers GC team was easily 'the worst side' in LIV Golf.
