When it comes to waterproof golf clothing, Galvin Green is the best in the business. The Swedish brand has been the benchmark for all other waterproof clothing for some time and with good reason.
It should come as no surprise that when the heavens begin to open on the PGA or DP World Tours, almost every player in the field reaches for a set of Galvin Green waterproofs.
The brand's newest innovation is the Amos jacket, which features an adjustable hood to provide an added layer of protection from the elements.
We have to admit, when we first saw the hood, we couldn't imagine having it up when hitting a golf shot; however, having now used it for a number of rounds, we are pleased to report that it works absolutely perfectly.
If you're reading this from the UK, you will know we've had some God-awful weather recently. Although disappointing, it did have one silver lining: it allowed us to truly test out the limits of the Amos jacket.
So, without further ado, let's dive into what makes this jacket one of the best on the market in 2024.
First of all, let's cover arguably the most important factor. Does it keep you dry?
Well, for those of you familiar with GORE-TEX fabric, you won't be surprised to find out that, yes, this jacket is more than a match for even the most aggressive downpours.
We didn't feel a drop of moisture during our round, and thanks to the full collar zipper, we were able to prevent even the most determined water droplets from breaking through.
At first, the addition of a hood seemed almost gimmicky, but we're pleased to report that it not only does a fantastic job of keeping your head dry but is also incredibly comfortable to swing in.
Eager to test out whether or not the additional fabric over our heads would be distracting, we kept it up for the majority of our round and genuinely forgot it was even there.
It's lightweight and silent, which means you can go about your normal swing without even noticing it.
We never thought we would be hood-up golfers, but we can now confirm we are converts.
Moving on to the rest of the jacket, the three pockets on the front are very handy for keeping things, and the two at waist height are also fantastic for keeping your hands dry and warm during the round.
The ability to adjust the wrists is also a big plus, as it means no matter how thick your wrists are, you can find a size that suits you.
Thanks to the C-knit fabric, the jacket also glides seamlessly over any underlayers you may be wearing.
On occasion, we have tested jackets that grip your other clothes, making the jacket hard to take on and off, but that certainly wasn't the case with this jacket.
All in all, the construction is very premium, too. The zippers never snagged, and the seams are very well put together, meaning you get no areas where the fabric is too tight or too loose.
The overall design of the jacket, at first glance, looks quite simple, even perhaps a touch boring, but as we've come to find, that is actually a huge benefit.
If you are going to be paying £369 for a waterproof jacket, it's quite nice to be able to wear it off and on the golf course, and thanks to the clean look of this jacket, we've worn it around town on a number of occasions.
Sometimes, less is more, and that's certainly what Galvin Green has achieved with this jacket. The block colour goes with a number of outfits, and the elegant cut doesn't look out of place down the pub either.
All in all, we are huge fans of this jacket, and we think it's without a doubt one of the best offerings the brand has produced.
We liked it so much that we couldn't find a single negative to highlight in this review.
Verdict
If you're in the market for a new waterproof jacket in 2024, then the Amos from Galvin Green should be right at the top of your shopping list.
It's incredibly well made, delivers excellent on-course performance, and looks great, making it a versatile piece that can be worn for golf or almost any other pursuit.
While it is expensive, you certainly get your money's worth for a product that will last a lifetime.
