Cobra DS-Adapt Hybrid Review
GolfMagic tests out the new Cobra DS-Adapt Hybrid.
-Packs a serious punch
- Fantastic adjustability
Cobra DS-Adapt Hybrid Key Features:
- Adaptive weighting for low and forward CG placement
- H.O.T. FACE Technology for added speed and launch
- FUTUREFIT33 adapter offers 33 different lie and loft options
Rounding out Cobra's wood lineup for 2025 is the DS Adapt hybrid. Unlike other brands, Cobra has gone for a one-model-fits-all system, with its hybrids only offering one head profile.
Available from 2-H all the way down to 6-H, the DS-Adapt offers a slightly larger footprint than last year's Darkspeed, designed to provide more forgiveness and greater consistency.
The DS-Adapt hybrid features plenty of Cobra's tried and tested tech, including Adaptive weighting and H.O.T. FACE Technology, both designed to improve launch and increased speed.
The stand out tech story, though, is the addition of the FUTUREFIT33 adapter, that allows golfers to adjust the lie and loft of the hybrid, with 33 options available.
To test out how the new hybrid performs, GolfMagic's Equipment Editor, Alex Lodge, and I took it out on the course, before putting it through its paces at Foresight HQ with a GC Quad launch monitor.
Player Level
The DS Adapt offers a good level of forgiveness, plenty of speed and a really lovely look behind the ball. It could be used by golfers of any ability. It offers the playability required by a high handicap player while still delivering workability for the better player.
Cobra DS-Adapt Hybrid Looks and Feel
Cobra has absolutely nailed it with the design of this wood line up. From driver right down to hybrid, there is just so much to like.
From address, the DS-Adapt has a slightly larger profile, which is both confidence inspiring and just great to look at from a purely aesthetic perspective. The all black design looks sleek, and the shaping is very sophisticated.
Flip the club over, and the DS-Adapt's sole is almost identical to that of the driver and fairway wood, which is a very good thing. Darkspeed hybrids looked great, but I've got to hand it to Cobra, they've really polished things up this year, and the sole design is even better.
Dynamic, sleek and lovely to look at, it ticks all my boxes.
In terms of feel, the DS-Adapt falls in the middle of the pack compared to what we've tested this year. From the middle it feels powerful and potent, however there was nothing there that really gave us the wow factor.
Cobra DS-Adapt Hybrid Performance and Forgiveness
As you can see from the table above, this hybrid much like its predecessor packs one hell of a punch.
While speed alone is impressive, what I liked most about the DS-Adapt is the improved forgiveness on offer.
Thanks to the slightly larger footprint, there has been a noticeable uptick in forgiveness from across the face, and thanks to the new hosel, you can also tweak the configuration very easily in order to find the perfect setup for your swing.
Whether you primarily use a hybrid off the tee or for attacking long approach shots, the playability on offer from the DS-Adapt if top notch.
As you can see from the graph above, the spin rates are spot on, and despite the additional roll out we received, you can still launch this hybrid high enough to get it to stop on greens.
During testing we did try to work the ball both ways, and found it was doable, however there is probably a slight draw bias to this club, as tends to be the case for most modern hybrids.
If you are someone who potentially struggles to hit their long irons consistently, I would highly recommend testing out a couple of DS-Adapt hybrids, as they really do deliver the full package.
Should you buy a Cobra DS-Adapt Hybrid?
The DS-Adapt is a great hybrid, it offers versatility, plenty of power and impressive levels of forgiveness.
If you've purchased a hybrid in the last three years I would save some cash and hold on to it, however if you are due an update in the hybrid department, you should definitely go and hit the DS -Adapt to see if you get on with it.
