Vice first burst onto the scene as a D2C ball brand, but since then, they have gone from strength to strength, producing apparel, accessories, clubs and also rangefinders.

The Horizon range finder is the brand's latest offering in the category, and it offers Vice's classic eye-catching visuals with all of the inbuilt tech to make it a valuable part of any golfer's setup.

I took it out for 18 holes at Woodhall Spa to see how the rangefinder performed.

Let's get into it.

Before we get into the tech, let's first talk about looks, because despite being of secondary importance, it's always nice to have a good looking rangefinder on the bag.

Vice has opted for a primarily black design, with accents of lime green that really make it pop.

Bold Vice branding also flanks both sides, with a lovely topography pattern rounding it out. From a purely aesthetic perspective I'm a massive fan of this rangefinder, the design is a little more adventurous than other option on the market, and it sticks with Vice's overall brand, which is one that likes to be disruptive.

The hard shell case that comes with the rangefinder also has a matte black case that has additional subtle detailing and vice branding.

The case itself is sturdy and comes with a handy elastic cord for when you don't want to zip it all the way up.

From a tech perspective, the Horizon features a 250 yard pin range and a 900 yard object range. While the object range is impressive it has to be said that when compared to other brands like Garmin, the pin range of only 250 yards is a little on the light side.

With that being said, it's pretty rare you are zapping a pin from over 250 yards, so from a practicality perspective it didn't have a huge effect on my round when using it.

The Horizon also features slope adjustment which can be turned on and off for tournaments, which worked very well out on the course, giving quick and clear yardages on the crystal clear display.

The last key tech feature is the target lock system with vibration. This is one of my favourite features on the rangefinder, and it really helps, especially if like me you get slightly shaky hands when trying to lock on.

In terms of using the rangefinder, it really couldn't be easier. Lots of brands have maybe slightly overcomplicated rangefinders in recent years, but Vice has stuck with a simple shoot and point and in my eyes that's how it should be done.

The two buttons on the top allow you to turn the rangefinder on and off, the ring allows you to adjust focus, and the M button simply switches the rangefinder between metres and yards.

From an ergonomic point of view the rangefinder fits nicely in the hand, and the rubberised pattern on the side also allows you to grip it nicely, without fear of it slipping out of your hand.

I used the Vice for a round and have to say there is a lot to like and not much to dislike. It's easy to use, it looks cool, and it does exactly what it says on the tin for a very resaonable price.

Another added feature that's included but I didn't get the opportunity to use is the magnetic strip that runs down the side, making it ideal for attaching to a buggy.

The pin lock is good, the display is clean and it looks great in hand. The Horizon really does tick a whole lot of boxes.

Should you buy a Vice Horizon Rangefinder?

If you're looking for an affordable rangefinder that offers a simple and straightforward point and shoot system, then the Horizon is well worth your consideration.

While some brands are going all out on bag fulls of additional tech features, Vice has kept it simple and that's what we love most about this model.

Knowing your distances is key, and thanks to Vice you can have that information at your fingertips without breaking the bank.
