Fujikura Pro Black Shaft Review
GolfMagic tests out the new Fujikura Pro Black Shaft.
Fujikura Pro Black Shaft Key features:
- Two different bend profiles
- ABP (Alternative Bend Profile) to improve kick speed and clubhead speed
- Sits below Ventus
Fujikura has released its new Fujikura Pro shafts for woods, replacing the Motore series shafts.
For Fujikura enthusiasts, the Fujikura Pro will sit just below the Ventus range but above the Vista Pro.
Two profiles are available in the Pro Series, and I got my hands on the Fujikura Pro Black 60x driver shaft.
Fujikura Pro Black
- Low Launch/Spin driver shaft, targeted at the faster players
- ABP similar to that of the Pro Blue, but slightly stiffer overall
Fujikura Pro Blue
- Mid Launch/Low Spin
- Targeting a wider array of golfers with a slightly smoother feel throughout
The main technology behind the Fujikura Pro series is ABP (Alternative Bend Profile).
This targets specific sections of the shafts' stiffness to increase kick speed and overall clubbed speed. You may have heard similar in Fujikura’s Ventus TR range, where they targeted torque and twist in specific sections of the shaft.
This shaft did appeal to my overall game. I used to game a Ventus Black, which is known for being rather stout. However, a few injuries had led me to need a shaft with a softer profile in the midsection.
60x was the perfect weight, so I took this shaft around Fairmont St Andrews to see how it compared to other Fujikura offerings and other shafts on the market.
Now, make no mistake, this is still a stout shaft.
I currently game the Ventus+ Blue 6X, with the Fujikura Pro Black feeling significantly stiffer than the blue.
Despite having ABP, It did have less personality than Ventus+ Black as well. This has pros and cons.
I felt like I could really step on this shaft and get numbers that were right at the top of performance. However, I did struggle to load it correctly at points due to how stout it was on the tip. A year ago, this shaft would have been perfect for me, but it appears now, the Fujikura Pro Blue is a better fit.
The shaft definitely produced low launch and spin, so if you are a high spin/speed player and like the feel of a board shaft (Similar to the Project X HZRDUS Hulk) this would be ideal.
