Titleist GT2 Driver Review
GolfMagic test out the new Titleist GT2 Driver.
Titleist GT Driver Key Features:
- Seamless Thermoform Crown: Constructed from brand new Proprietary matrix polymer
- Titanium speed ring: reinforces and stabilises the perimeter of the clubface for improved ball speeds
- Tour inspired face graphics: designed to frame the ball squarely at address based on extensive Tour feedback
Titleist's new GT line of drivers features three models, and in this review, we are looking at the most forgiving in the family, the GT2.
Designed to appeal to the broadest range of players, the GT2 has been specifically designed to retain speed from across the face.
Featuring Titleist's new seamless thermoform crown and a titanium speed ring, this driver may be forgiving, but it's certainly still geared for speed.
Already in the bag of PGA Tour star Adam Scott, the GT2 has been designed with extensive Tour feedback.
The big tech story with the new GT line is the introduction of a seamless thermoform crown that has been created with a newly created Proprietary Matrix Polymer. The Polymer is lighter than carbon, allowing weight to be redistributed throughout the head while still retaining that classic Titleist feel and sound that has made the brand's drivers so popular with golfers around the world.
To find out how the driver performed we took it down to Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate with our Foresight GC3 to dig deep into the numbers.
Let's get into it.
Player Level
Offering sensational looks, plenty of forgiveness and bags of speed, this driver could be used effectively by golfers of any ability. The price tag may put off the casual golfer, but if you're serious about your golf, this is one of the drivers to beat in 2024.
Titleist GT Driver Looks and Feel
Down at address, it's fair to say not a lot has changed since the previous generation of Titleist drivers. The TSR alignment logo has been replaced by a GT one, but that same classic high gloss black finish has remained consistent.
Classic tear drop shaping provides plenty of confidence when sat behind the ball, and the relatively deep head only adds to that appealing profile.
Flip the club over and the sole features a mix of gloss and matte panels, which all frame the GT logo that runs through the middle of the club. The dynamic design looks superb and builds upon the success and visual theme that we've seen running since the TSi range.
When we spoke to the team at Titleist, they said that a Titleist driver has to look like a Titleist driver, and by that they mean, it has to have that classic sleek look that people and players expect.
Well we can confirm, they've certainly succeeded in that aim. The TSR range was arguably the best looking set of drivers ever to grace this planet, and while we're undecided on whether GT has eclipsed their older siblings, they've certainly matched them.
As soon as we hit the GT2 for the first time, we were really impressed by both the sound and the feel.
At impact the driver produces a loud crack that really cuts through the air. The acoustics are loud in all the right ways, and when you crush one out of the middle it really sounds like it's staying hit.
The feel is also a hot flash, that matches up perfectly to the sound. There is enough feedback to let you know when you've hit a bad shot, but from the middle it feels oh so pure.
Titleist GT2 Driver Performance and Forgiveness
This driver is fast! Really fast. Considering the GT2 is said to be more geared towards forgiveness compared to the GT3 and GT4, there have certainly been no sacrifices made on speed.
As you can see from the table above, this driver is one of the longest we've tested in 2024.
What really impressed us most about the GT2 though, was speed retention from across the face.
During our custom fitting at Titleist's Performance Centre at Woburn, Alex hit some truly god awful toe strikes, so far out of the toe he nearly missed the ball.
Do you want to know how far the ball went? It still carried 295 yards and rolled out to 324 yards.
Now, that really got our attention. Did the ball probably miss the fairway left? yes it did, but the speed and spin retained across the face was staggering.
Both myself and Alex hit the GT2 and while I can't say I was able to hit it quite as far as Alex, I did find the fairway on repeat.
My one big takeaway from using the driver was just how stable it felt throughout the swing. Sometimes when testing drivers, you can almost lose the driver in the swing, and feel like you don't know where the head is. With the GT2 though that was never an issue.
Whether I was hitting a draw or a fade, the driver held the ball on a beautiful line and height.
Spin rates were right where we wanted them to be, which is not only down to the driver but also one of the definitive benefits of getting a custom fitting, which we would always recommend.
While Alex currently has the GT3 in his bag, the GT2 has come home with me and it's become an incredibly dependable tool off the tee.
Titleist don't do things by halves, and the new GT2 is certainly the full package.
Should you buy a Titleist GT2 Driver?
If you own a Titleist TSR2 we would honestly tell you to save your cash and maybe wait one or two more years to upgrade your driver.
However, if you are long overdue a new driver and want the best 2024 has to offer, then the GT2 should be right at the top of your shopping list.
Sleek, powerful fast and forgiving, the GT2 has it all.
