Any Titleist club launch is exciting, but none more so than new metal woods. This year, Titleist has produced the GT line, and in this review, we will take a closer look at the brand-new GT3 driver to see if it's one of the best drivers of 2024.

The new GT range replaces the incredibly successful TSR line, which was the most used driver range on the PGA Tour for the last two years.

In terms of tech, the GT3 driver (along with all other GT models) features an ultra-lightweight crown made from a new Proprietary Matrix Polymer. This has never been used before in clubhead design and is a shift away from Titleist’s all-titanium construction seen in the TSR range.

The new lightweight Proprietary Matrix Polymer is the result of years of R&D. It has allowed Titleist to position weight in the head in such a way that ball speeds from across the face have increased without losing that classic Titleist sound and feel that its customers and Tour players love so much.

A split mass construction, improved aerodynamics, and enhanced speed ring with VFT have also been incorporated for what Titleist has claimed is their best driver range ever.

To see how the GT3 performed, we headed to Titleist’s Performance Centre at Woburn to put it through its paces.

See how we got on below.

Player Level

The “3” in the Titleist driver range is usually targeted at the better player. Although the compact, pear shaped profile of the GT3 would confirm that statement, it’s not as linear as it may seem. A player who used the TSR2 last season, may now be fit into the GT3. That being said, we would still recommend the GT3 to a low/mid handicap player, due to the compact head profile.

Titleist GT3 Looks and Feel

Titleist prides itself on elegant and simple aesthetics, and that has remained consistent in the GT range. Some golf fanatics were expecting a dramatic design overhaul for the new range, but with the success of TSR, who can blame them for keeping it consistent. As we learnt at our fitting any new driver 'has to look like a Titleist'.

The GT3 certainly possesses the timeless Titleist look down at dress. A simple, glossy, compact crown will have any low to mid handicap golfer staring down the fairway with confidence.

The sole has undergone somewhat of a facelift in 2024, with the high gloss GT panel taking centre stage, flanked by wings of matte black which provide lovely contrast.

The TSR range was in our opinion one of the best looking set of drivers ever made, and while we don't think GT has eclipsed its older brothers, it's certainly matched them for visual appeal.

When comparing the GT3 to the GT2 and GT4, the untrained eye might not be able to tell the difference. The elegant, Titleist look is consistent across all three models, with the GT2 being the only model that is significantly larger than the others.

With Titleist moving away from the all titanium construction, we were intrigued to see if the feel would be different from previous iterations.

What we noticed during testing was not only did we still experience that unique Titleist feel across the face, but the strikes (when out the middle) felt softer, with an added spring to it.

We could really feel the trampoline effect from the GT3 driver, and knew before looking at the launch monitor that it was going to be fast.

The sounds at impact was also impressive, with the classic Titleist crack reverberating across the range with every shot.

Titleist GT3 Performance and Forgiveness

We had high hopes for the GT range, and being fit at the Titleist Performance Centre by Master Fitter John Bean meant we knew we were leaving with the right head and shaft combination.

Two years ago, we were fit into the Titleist TSR4 at the same venue.

This time around, the Titleist GT3 was the final choice, whereby we noticed a 4mph ball speed increase compared to the TSR4, and a 6mph increase to our current gamer.

We went through several different shaft and head combinations, but kept coming back to the GT3, due to the exceptional ball speed it was able to produce.

Some absolutely atrocious swings were captured throughout the fitting, yet the smash factor stayed above 1.47 for almost all of them. A metric that had us scratching our head in disbelief.

For such a compact model, we were expecting to see significant drop offs in ball speed and overall distance from poor strikes, however even from way out of the toe, we still managed to achieve carry distances of roughly 350 yards.

Once the head of the GT3 was chosen, we then dived deeper into the tech by using the internal CG tracking to help find the middle of the clubface more consistently.

Drawing upon John's experience and knowledge we  fine tuned the CG exactly to my swing, something that you can't do without a proper custom fitting. The CG tracking was moved slightly towards the toe to allow the heel to move faster towards the ball, and thus move our strike location away from the toe and more towards the sweet spot.

What separates the Titleist GT3 driver from other drivers this year is the compact look at address, yet consistent ball speeds across the face. We were hugely impressed by the performance of the new GT range, and have since seen similar results on course.

Should you buy a Titleist GT3 Driver?

If you’ve been thinking of purchasing a specific model from the GT range, please go and experience all three and let an experienced fitter assist you in the right head.

That being said, each head offers superb looks and feel, and sits right at the top of the table for ball speed in 2024.

We were hugely impressed by the GT3 and despite the high price point, we think it still offers excellent value for money and is one of the standout performers of 2024.
