#3 - Cleveland 588 wedge
First introduced to the world back in 1988 - yes I'm finally born! - the Cleveland Golf 588 marked only the fifth wedge produced by the brand – hence the name.

Cleveland was quickly celebrating when Sandy Lyle slipped on the Green Jacket at the 1988 Masters using the original 588, pictured above right, which went on to record another 25 major championships and more than 330 PGA Tour events.
And then there was the famous re-launch of the 588 in 2011, with the only tweak being the introduction of Cleveland’s two most popular technologies – Tour Zip Grooves and a special surface roughness – as well as a True Temper Tour Concept shaft and updated logo design.
But in the eyes of Cleveland Golf, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The teardrop shape of the 588, tapered hosel and form at address wasn’t altered at all, and it was once again forged from 1025 carbon steel to maintain that required soft feel.
In more recent years, Cleveland Golf has revamped its design with a number of different RTX versions to suit all different types of abilities and playing surfaces, none better than its new RTX-3, pictured above.
