Madeira set to welcome new Nick Faldo course in 2026
The idyllic island of Madeira is set to welcome its fourth course with a new Nick Faldo-designed layout set to open at Ponta do Pargo in 2026.
Six-time major champion and Ryder Cup hero Nick Faldo is set to cut the ribbon on his new course design in 2026 with the opening of Ponta do Pargo on the island of Madeira.
Construction of the first phase of the cliffside course first began in 2009 and was recommenced in May of this year, with completion set for next summer.
Phase two of the project is then expected to take an additional 18 months to complete.
Owned by Ponta do Oeste S.A, Ponta do Pargo Golf Course will adopt a number of measures to reduce the environmental impact across the 120-acre site, including the installation of a state-of-the-art irrigation system.
These measures will be taken not only to align with Madeira's sustainable credentials but also to preserve the natural charm of the course.
The par-72 layout is situated on the most westerly point of Madeira Island in the Ponta do Pargo region. The first new course to open on the island in 22 years, it has been designed in a location that boasts unrivalled natural beauty with breathtaking views of the surrounding Atlantic Ocean.
In addition to the 18-hole golf course, upon completion Ponta do Pargo will also feature practice facilities, including a driving range and short game area; a nine-hole pitch-and-putt course; a clubhouse, restaurant and hotel.
The President of the Regional Government of Madeira said:
Located approximately 1,000 km from the European mainland, the island enjoys a beautifully mild climate all year round. Ranging from 25°c in the summer to 17°c in the winter, making it an ideal destination for golf all year-round.
Madeira currently has three excellent golf courses on the island - Palheiro Golf, Clube de Golfe Santo da Serra and Porto Santo Golfe.
