PGA Tour golfer Justin Thomas makes surprising claim about Presidents Cup

PGA Tour star Justin Thomas admitted he was torn over whether to watch the 2024 Presidents Cup after he missed out on a pick.

PGA Tour star Justin Thomas admitted he wasn't sure if he was going to watch the 2024 Presidents Cup

But the golfer was glad he did after the Americans ran out comfortable winners at Royal Montreal in Canada.

Thomas, 31, along with his good buddy Jordan Spieth, didn't appear in a U.S. side at a Presidents Cup or Ryder Cup for the first time since 2012.

Spieth missed out after undergoing surgery on his wrist and plans to be back in action next January at the earliest.

As for Thomas, two-time major champion had a much-improved 2023-2024 season and made it to the season-ending Tour Championship

He finished seventh at East Lake and, along with an overall 10-3-2 Presidents Cup record, it suggested he would be hard for captain Jim Furyk to ignore.

But Furyk did and never truly outlined why he excluded Thomas.

At least not publicly.

When he announced his six captain's picks, he said of Thomas: "There are a bunch of guys that I would want on this team.

"It was a difficult decision with JT. Definitely a difficult call to make."

The U.S. side continued their dominance in the Presidents Cup by claiming an 18½-11½ victory over the International team to seal their 10th straight title.

They led 11-7 before the Sunday singles and it was Keegan Bradley, the 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup captain, that grabbed the crucial point.

Thomas took to X in the immediate aftermath of victory, writing: "Wasn’t sure if I'd want to watch or not, but mannnnn have I enjoyed watching this Presidents Cup.

"Some serious golf and emotion going on out there. Kills me to be watching from home but I'm cheering hard for team USA. LFG BOYS."

"Damned if you do"

At the 2022 Presidents Cup, Thomas was involved in an electric match against Si Woo Kim.

Thomas looked visibly annoyed when a short putt wasn't conceded and, some argued, got a taste of his own medicine when Kim and proceeded to repeatedly 'shush' the home fans when he jarred huge putts.

The U.S. golfer later said Kim's antics 'p----ed me off'.

Over the weekend, Kim was fired up once again and went nuts after he chipped in for birdie at the 16th hole to tie his and Tom Kim's match against Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele.

Kim mimicked Stephen Curry's 'Nighty-Night' celebration but Cantlay had the last laugh, holing a birdie putt in near darkness to claim the point.

Wyndham Clark promptly did Curry's celebration right back to Kim

Asked by one of his followers about Kim's antics, Thomas said celebrations at team events are out of body experiences.

"It's no surprise [he did that]. I love guys showing emotion and getting into it in these team events," Thomas wrote.

"As a viewer SW and Tom were the energy yesterday for their team. I also think some of those celebrations are so out of body you don't even know what you're doing haha."

He added: "While I'm sure a few of them were taken a little further than they intended, it's part of what makes these events so special.

"Damned if you do damned if you don't type situation.

"Also easy for me to say sitting on my couch and not actually happening to me in person."
