Jordan Spieth told epic strop during third round of The Players 'totally on brand'
Jordan Spieth threw his club in fury after his approach shot found the water during moving day of the 2025 Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
PGA Tour fan favourite Jordan Spieth suffered a 'totally on brand' meltdown during the third round of the 2025 Players Championship.
Spieth came into moving day at the unofficial fifth men's major of the year with his score at 3-under.
He was hoping to make some early birdies at the flagship PGA Tour event to try and put pressure on the early leaders Akshay Bhatia and Min Woo Lee.
After a so-so front nine, the American then imploded in epic fashion at the Stadium Course's par-5 16th hole.
The three-time major winner split the middle of the fairway at the 515-yard hole and, naturally, wanted to try and reach the green in two.
But his approach shot from 204 yards strayed right and his golf ball found a watery grave.
After witnessing the splash, Spieth then made his feelings clear in the clearest possible way by launching his club in fury.
Sometimes golf clubs just need to die.
Spieth began the hole with his score at 4-under but trudged off the green with a double bogey.
He eventually carded a 1-over 73 which - at the time - was nine shots back of clubhouse leaders.
"Such an on brand moment," one X user replied after Kyle Porter clipped an re-shared the video.
"The most relatable Spieth moment ever," another added.

Spieth is still making his way back to full fitness
Spieth is still trying to get back to feeling 100 per cent after recovering from wrist surgery he had last August.
It led to his longest layoff on the PGA Tour since 2012.
Earlier this month, Spieth revealed how he felt 'bummed' to miss out on a spot in the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
So far, at The Players, his golf could only be described as a rollercoaster.
In the first round, he chipped in for eagle twice but also scored a double bogey in between them.
He had a steady second round but was back to his chaotic best in the third.
His close friend and Ryder Cup teammate Justin Thomas is also experiencing an inconsistent tournament.
Thomas shot a first round 78, but then went bananas in the second round and tied the course record with a 10-under 62.
Thomas then decided to call out former PGA Tour pro turned analyst Colt Knost.
A bogey on the last prevented Thomas from breaking the course record but after his horrible first round, he did not care.
Thomas said: "I'm really really proud of myself, to come out with the mentality and attitude is one thing but to put myself in the position I did."
