Sepp Straka reveals his special treatment on the PGA Tour: "It's customary"

Sepp Straka earned his can of Diet Coke after taking the 36-hole lead at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. 

The Austrian, who made his Ryder Cup debut in 2023, hit eight birdies and one bogey en route to a second round of 7-under 65 at Pebble Beach.

He leads Russell Henley and Cameron Davis by three strokes. 

Straka overcame late nerves to pick up his third PGA Tour title two weeks ago at The American Express. 

His reward when he got home to his wife and twin boys was a case of Diet Cokes. 

No matter what he shoots in PGA Tour events, the staff in the scoring hut always have one on hand for the 31-year-old. 

"It's customary," he said with a grin. "The scoring guys always have one ready for me when I finish a round, so [I get] special treatment."

Straka's only bogey of the day came at the par-4 16th after he missed the green long and failed to get up and down. 

Other than that blemish, Straka put on a putting masterclass. 

He credited a small change. 

"Got my hands a little bit higher, strengthened my grip a little bit and went to a smaller, skinnier grip," he said. 

Elsewhere, Rory McIlroy carded a 2-under 70 and is just outside of the top-10. 

McIlroy went out in 4-under but dropped shots at 12, 13, 16 and 17. 

An eagle at the final hole left him on 8-under. 

World No.1 Scottie Scheffler hit the same score as McIlroy at Pebble Beach. 

Scheffler saved par in ridiculous fashion at the 18th. 

He pulled his tee shot way left and hit his ball back into play from the rocks.
