Scottie Scheffler vaulted to the top of the leaderboard after tying the course record of 62 in the second round of the Texas Children's Houston Open at Memorial Park GC.

Scheffler, 28, started on the 10th hole and raced out the gate with consecutive birdies on the first two holes of his round.

The World No.1 then added two more at 16 and 17 to go out in 31.

He then turned for home with a birdie at 2 before adding three more on the last five holes for a flawless round of 62.

Scheffler has yet to record a single bogey for 36 holes as he looks down on the rest of the field, something he has done a lot of the past 12 months.

The TaylorMade sfaff player won seven official titles on the PGA Tour in 2024, but he has yet to record a victory so far in 2025.

Scheffler suffered a puncture wound to his palm on Christmas Day, and it forced him out of PGA Tour action for the first four weeks of the season.

But Scheffler looks well and truly over that now and is back playing the golf we all know he is capable of, just two weeks before The Masters.

Scheffler now has a golden chance to win his first title of the season in his home event after moving to the top of the board in the second round.

He holds a one-shot lead over Taylor Pendrith, Ryan Gerard and Min Woo Lee heading into the weekend.

"Yeah, it felt pretty good," Scheffler said after tying the course record of 62 at Memorial Park GC.

"Hit a lot of fairways out there, gave myself a lot of looks.

"I holed a good amount of putts today, holed a few long ones, which is always nice."

Scheffler was so dialled in on Friday, he joked he could have even birdied all 18 holes.

The American was agonisingly defeated to this title 12 months ago by Germany's Stephan Jaeger.

Scheffler missed a short five-footer for birdie on 18 that would have taken him into a playoff.

Rory McIlroy made three late birdies in a row from the 15th to make the cut at 4-under par.

But that's seven shots behind Scheffler.

The Texas Children's Houston Open marks the final event of both McIlroy and Scheffler's schedules before The Masters from 10-13 April.

Scheffler is looking to defend his green jacket at famed Augusta National and win The Masters for a third time in four years.

Mcilroy is of course looking for a place in the record books as he goes in search of completing the career grand slam at The Masters.
