The PGA Tour have refused to divulge what was discussed as Donald Trump played a round of golf with their commissioner Jay Monahan over the weekend.

Trump set tongues wagging when he claimed before winning the U.S. election that he could end the hostilities in the elite men's game in the blink of an eye.

The 78-year-old claimed that it would only take him 15 minutes to fix the sport, which has been divided since LIV entered the picture in June 2022.

World No.3 Rory McIlroy claimed in the immediate aftermath of his sweeping victory over Kamala Harris that Trump's administration may be able expedite an agreement between the North American circuit and Saudi Arabia's PIF.

It appears that Trump has wasted little time in talking to the key figureheads in the sport.

Last Friday, he played 18 holes with PGA Tour boss Monahan at Trump International in Florida.

He was also pictured with LIV chairman and PIF governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan at UFC 339 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Details of what was discussed are being kept a closely guarded secret.

But a PGA Tour spokesperson has told the Washington Post:

"President-elect Trump has always been a champion of the game of golf, and Commissioner Monahan was honoured to accept his invitation to play at Trump International. The president-elect and the commissioner share a love for the game and enjoyed their time together."

McIlroy is not the only person that believes Trump's victory was good for golf.

DP World Tour chief executive Guy Kinnings described Trump as someone who 'clearly cares about the game and loves it'.

"That's a good thing," Kinnings said.

The PGA Tour, DP World Tour and LIV Golf agreed to partner in June 2023 with the announcement of a 'framework agreement'.

Although that brought the end of an acrimonious and expensive legal battle, the parties have been unable to finalise a deal.

Last month it was reported by the Sun that an agreement had been reached, with the PIF set to invest $1.5bn in exchange for an 11% stake in the Tour.

It was also reported the aforementioned Al-Rumayyan would be named as the chairman of PGA Tour Enterprises.

McIlroy previously hailed Al-Rumayyan as a 'very impressive man'.

What did Rory McIlroy say about Trump?

McIlroy reckons Trump has got other things to focus on other than golf.

But he did tell reporters in Abu Dhabi: "Trump has a great relationship with Saudi Arabia. He's got a great relationship with golf.

"He's a lover of golf. So, maybe. Who knows? But I think as the President of the United States again, he's probably got bigger things to focus on than golf."
