PGA Tour pro hammers player who left horrific divot: "You should be ashamed"
PGA Tour pro Cameron Percy says the player who didn't refill a divot at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship 'should be ashamed of themselves'.
PGA Tour pro Cameron Percy wasn't happy at all.
The reason? He had just striped a drive down the middle of the fairway during the first round of the Butterfield Bermuda Championship but ended up in a horrific divot.
Percy was playing the ninth hole at Port Royal and had approximately 71 yards to a front pin. For the overwhelming majority of golfers out there, that number means one thing: don't blade it long.
Tour pro Percy would've been thinking he had to make a birdie with a wedge in hand.
Unfortunately we do not have footage of what happened but Percy eventually made a double bogey on the hole en route to a 1-over par 72.
After 18 holes, Sweden's Alex Noren was leading following his 10-under 61. YouTuber George Bryan was primed for a battle to make the cut.
Percy was also facing a battle to make the weekend in the FedEx Fall event.
The Australian rebounded in the second round and made five birdies in his opening nine holes.
But he said the round one culprit should be 'ashamed to call themselves a pro for leaving the divot I finished in'.
Ordinarily we would be able to find out who is to blame via ShotLink, but it isn't in operation this week.
While the reaction may seem a little bit over the top from Percy, this is a crucial time for the rank-and-file members.
Percy is currently ranked 152nd in the FedEx Cup standings and needs to finish in the top 125 by the end of the Fall season to get his playing rights secure for 2024.
Whoever had 71 yards to the front on 9 today up left middle of fairway should be ashamed to call themselves a pro for leaving the divot l finished in.
