PGA Tour player announces retirement from game at 37 years old
PGA Tour player Espen Kofstad calls it quits from the game of golf aged just 37.
PGA Tour and DP World player Espen Kofstad announced his shock retirement from the game today at the age of just 37.
Kofstad turned professional in 2011 and he eventually made his debut on the PGA Tour at the Barbasol Championship in 2022.
The Norwegian played a number of DP World Tour events during his career but never managed to win a tournament.
He did, however, pick up two titles on the Challenges Tour.
Kofstad's first victory came in 2012 at the Double Tree by Hilton Acaya Open and he then soon added another at the Apulia San Domenico Grand Final.
It was a season that ensured his playing privilges on the European Tour, now the DP World Tour, for 2013.
Three years later, Kofstad made one of his biggest career achievements by representing his nation at the 2016 Olympics.
He finished T43 in Rio.
Kofstad continued to bounce between the European circuits but managed to make it onto the PGA Tour at two co-sanctioned events.
He performed admirably in the States too, finishing T13 at the Barbasol and T16 at the Barracuda.
Kofstad got to play in both of those tournaments again this season, but he missed the cut and finished 60th.
He also missed three cuts in a row on the DP World Tour and then withdraw from the Open de Espana last month.
Kofstad then took to his socials today to confirm his retirement from the game.
As of today he ranks 1,103rd in the world.
'Thank you tournament golf for everything,' he wrote.
'This feels like the right time to move on and look for something new.
'Thank you to everyone that has helped me along the way!'
