PGA Tour golfer's grovelling apology met with mixed reaction
PGA Tour star Tom Kim has apologised for his actions at the FedEx St. Jude Championship but some golf fans have ripped into his statement.
The hot takes about Tom Kim's behaviour during the final round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship are still flooding in.
Kim, 22, got a little bit hot under the collar at TPC Southwind last Sunday.
So much so, the South Korean lashed out in frustration after missing a short birdie putt.
Kim then left a visible dent on the green with his Scotty Cameron TourType Timeless GSS putter before he stormed off.
At the time, it wasn't clear if Kim repaired the damage.
But he posted a statement confirming that he had not 24 hours later.
"I will never lie to my peers and fans because I have too much respect respect and gratitude towards them," Kim's statement read.
"I wasn't aware that I had made that big of a damage on the green 'cause if I did I would've never just left without repairing it, but I was clearly wrong and will take full responsibility of my actions and will be better going forward."
The reaction to Kim's apology has been mixed to say the least.
Comments included:
"I think people should take his age and how difficult the past couple of weeks have been for him into consideration on this one."
"Okay go and work with the ground staff for a few days cleaning up the course."
"I mean who else would take responsibility?"
"Whatever"
"A generous donation to the grounds crew is needed."
"Two years of military service should suffice."
"Tom seems like a good guy. Forgiven."
"Tell that to the guys who played behind you!"
"You're okay Tom, golf is frustrating."
"Liar, you looked right at it."
Kim ended up being the bubble boy in the FedExCup playoffs, hence why he was particularly stressed out last week.
Only the top 50 players advanced to this week's BMW Championship.
Kim finished 51st in the standings.
