PGA Tour golfer mocks his critics: "You don't know s---"

PGA Tour member J.J. Spaun has fired back at those who questioned his club selection during extra holes against Rory McIlroy at the 2025 Players Championship.
Spaun found himself in a three-hole aggregate playoff on Monday at TPC Sawgrass after matching the Northern Irishman's 72-hole total at the Tour's flagship event.
The playoff did not go to plan for the 32-year-old American as his bid for the $4.5m top prize was undone at the iconic par-3 17th.
McIlroy spent the morning practicing his 'three-quarter, three-quarter' 9-iron and found the middle of the putting surface whilst Spaun took one more club, airmailed the green and eventually made a triple bogey.
The four-time major champ three-putted from inside 20 feet but still marched to the 18th tee box with a commanding three-shot lead.
In the immediate aftermath of McIlroy's second Players title, Spaun told reporters he did not regret his club selection whatsoever and that he was completely stunned his tee shot found the water.
He told Barstool Sports' Foreplay that he too spent the morning hitting 8-irons that were carrying 130 yards which was the perfect number for that pin.
Spaun was not influenced by McIlroy's club selection, he reiterated.
"I was warming up," Spaun told the podcast. "I was literally hitting 8-irons 128 yards, like into the wind, carrying perfect, and the pin was 130.
"We get to the hole, I already knew what I'm going to hit.
"I didn't care what Rory was hitting, but I looked, just to like gauge the kind of shot I hit with it [which] was going to determine the right distance.
"I mean, Rory's two clubs longer than me. He's one of the longest guys on tour. Everybody knows that.
"And everyone's [like], 'Oh you hit a f—king 9-iron when this guy hit an 8-iron, what an idiot.'
"It's like, you don't know s---. I'm happy with the swing I put on it. I executed how I wanted to. You know, I was one down, I had to hit a good shot."

For his part McIlroy also expressed surprise that Spaun's shot was long.
He told reporters in his news conference on Monday afternoon that he was telling his ball to 'get down'.
"And obviously J.J. hit his up in the air," McIlroy previously said. "I couldn't believe that it went straight through the wind like that.
"It was tricky to judge, but I sort of had that shot in my head, that little three-quarter, three-quarter 9-iron, and made a good swing at it."
