PGA Tour golfer Max Homa dismisses reporter's 'poor form' question

PGA Tour golfer Max Homa says it frustrates him that he hasn't been able to demonstrate how good his new Cobra equipment is after switching from Titleist.

PGA Tour star Max Homa says it's 'reductive' to simply put his poor form down to making a huge equipment switch at the turn of the year.

Homa has experienced up-and-down form since his stellar 2023 season that saw him win twice, post his best finish in a major and shine at the Ryder Cup in an otherwise disastrous performance for Team USA.

The 34-year-old told reporters ahead of the Genesis Invitational that the 2024 Masters - where he finished in a tie for third - was the last good tournament he played.

He was asked by one scribe if his struggles so far this season could be down - in part - to the time needed to adjust to new equipment.

Homa decided to switch from Titleist to Cobra in January after more than a decade with the former.

"No," Homa said when asked if if part of the issue is adapting to new clubs.

"It's very reductive just to go to, oh, 'He should have never switched golf clubs'. It bothers me a lot"

He added: "I think something that really bothers me about how poorly I [have] played is that I'm not giving or showing how great the Cobra stuff is, to be quite honest.

"Whenever I like have a new like company or brand I do a partnership with, I make it a goal through my golf to highlight how great they are and how hard working all these people are."

Homa said he has had more than enough time to get used to his new sticks.

He continued: "It's my own fault I've played poorly, but there's been no golf club issue.

"There's been no swing where I make a good one and I think to myself, I wonder if that would have flown better with a different golf club.

"I switched because I for one saw last year that it wasn't -- as my caddie said, it wasn't the golf clubs that make me hit it straight, it was myself.

"I can tell when a golf swing is bad and when it's good. My good ones are producing like the right flight and they feel great and the result is good, I just haven't swung it well enough.

"It's been frustrating on my end just because I would never switch anything in golf to make golf -- to make my golf be more difficult.

"I care about this more than damn near anything."

Homa has been handed a 1.58pm ET tee time on Thursday alongside Patrick Cantlay and Tommy Fleetwood.
