Matthew Fitzpatrick's long-time caddie Billy Foster has confirmed he has split with the 2022 U.S. Open champion after six years.

Foster confirmed the news with an emotional announcement on Instagram 24 hours after the English golfer missed the cut at the 2025 Players Championship.

Fitzpatrick has been struggling with his game for quite some time and hit rounds of 78 and 72 at TPC Sawgrass to miss the cut by seven strokes.

Foster confirmed before the 2025 PGA Tour season began that he was going to share looping duties with Dan Parratt.

But their partnership is now over.

"Well after six great years, all good things come to an end," Foster, who previously caddied for the likes of Seve Ballesteros, Lee Westwood, Darren Clarke and Thomas Bjorn wrote.

He added: "This game never stops to frustrate you and infuriate you.

"Unfortunately times change and ultimately it's the caddie or the coach that has to accept results are not good enough and when you stop enjoying what you are doing it's time for a change.

"Thanks Matt we had a great run and who knows where the next chapter will go. Onwards and upwards."

Fitzpatrick linked up with Foster in 2018 following his split with former World No.1 Westwood

They shared incredible success together on the DP World Tour and even lifted the 2022 U.S. Open at Brookline.

Fitzpatrick is yet to comment on the split.

He was ranked inside the top-10 in the OWGR last April but has since fallen to 61st.

It is Fitzpatrick's lowest world ranking in more than a decade.

His performances so far this season have been disappointing to say the least.

Fitzpatrick has played in six PGA Tour events and missed two cuts.

His best result was a T22 finish at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

The next few months are crucial for Fitzpatrick, given it is a Ryder Cup year.

He will be hoping that he will make his fourth appearance in the biennial contest at Bethpage Black in September.

Fitzpatrick's overall Ryder Cup record is 1-7-0.
