Justin Thomas appeared to surprise himself with how he managed to save par at Narashino Country Club's par-4 fourth hole on Saturday.

Thomas began the third round of the ZOZO Championship in blistering fashion, making birdie on the opening two holes.

A safe par at the third followed before he found trouble with his tee shot at the 500-yard par-4 fourth hole.

The two-time major champion sprayed his drive right and his Titleist ProV1x came to rest a few yards right of the cart path.

Branches overhanging from the tree in front of Thomas meant he was forced to go low with his approach.

What happened next almost beggared belief.

Thomas, 31, skipped his golf ball over the water to the front edge of the green.

JT even begged for his golf ball to skip which provided further evidence that this was in fact deliberate.

From there, he chipped to within gimme range for a par.

We also appreciate the little smirk, too!

Thomas did not record a single bogey on Friday.

His 5-under 65 meant that he was in a great position to end a winless drought that has lasted more than two years.

Thomas has not tasted victory since he lifted the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills.

After 54 holes, he was only two shots back of Colombia's Nico Echavarria.

Asked what his game plan was heading into the final round, Thomas said it was all about 'patience'.

"Anything can happen out here," he said.

"You have a lot of birdie holes that you can make bogey in a heartbeat if you get out of position or get in the wrong spot around the greens.

"I know that with greens this soft, any hole is birdieable.

"I think just because if I happen to be even through five, six, seven holes, that doesn't mean I'm out of it,

"I just have to keep my head down and really just treat each hole for what it is and really try to make as many birdies as I can."
