Golf legend posts shock update after being hospitalized for emergency surgery

Golf legend John Daly has taken to his Instagram Story to confirm he has been hospitalized following emergency hand surgery.

Daly, 58, is a winner of five PGA Tour titles including two major victories at the 1991 Open and 1995 US PGA.

"Emergency hand surgery... thankful went great and Doc McClimans for taking care of me," Daly captioned a photo of him at a hospital in Tampa, Florida via his Instagram.

"Be back playing in no time!"

It has not yet been revealed as to how Daly damaged his hand.

Daly's hand surgery comes several weeks after runaway World No.1 Scottie Scheffler also suffered a hand injury that required surgery. 

Scheffler, 28, suffered a puncture wound to his palm after serving dinner to his family. 

Said procedure saw shards of glass removed from Scheffler's right palm and it forced him to skip The Sentry at the start of the year. 

He was also forced to withdraw from this week's American Express after confiming he needed greater time to recover from hand surgery. 

Scheffler's team is hopeful he will be able return to PGA Tour action at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in two weeks' time.

Daly two weeks ago ripped a tee shot over a highway to ring in the New Year.

He was seen teeing up a golf ball with a cigarette in his mouth.

Daly was then told by several people around him to wait for traffic to clear before unleashing a drive.
