Golf fans react as Tiger Woods makes huge PGA Tour announcement
Tiger Woods confirms he will make his PGA Tour return at the Genesis Invitational.
Tiger Woods has confirmed he will make his 2024 season debut at next week's Genesis Invitational at famed Riviera.
Woods, 48, last competed in an official PGA Tour event at the 2023 Masters at Augusta National.
He was forced to withdraw ahead of the final round that week before shortly undergoing ankle surgery.
Woods finished 18th at his annual Hero World Challenge, an unofficial PGA Tour event in December.
He also teamed up with his son Charlie Woods to finish T5 at the annual PNC Championship just before Christmas.
But Woods will now make his official PGA Tour return at next week's Genesis Invitational, a tournament hosted by his Tiger Woods Foundation.
"Excited to be playing host at the Genesis Invitational," Woods wrote on his social media channels.
Woods' latest announcement has got his most ardent fans jumping for joy ahead of the first round on Thursday 15 February.
The Genesis Invitational marks the second signature event of the 2024 PGA Tour season.
Last week's AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am was the first of the year, and it was won by US Open champion Wyndham Clark.
That tournament was reduced to 54 holes as bad weather wiped out the final round.
The winner of the Genesis Invitational will receive a cheque for $3.6m, which is just $400,000 less than what a winner receives on LIV Golf.
There is a total prize purse of $20m at the Genesis Invitational.
Jon Rahm won last year's Genesis Invitational but he will not be able to defend the title as he has joined LIV Golf.
Woods yesterday teased his fans to keep their eyes peeled for an exciting announcement happening next Monday 12 February.
It is understood Woods will announce his brand new Sunday Red company having recently split with his long-term sponsor Nike Golf.
A photograph of the golfer was captioned with: "The vision remains the same. 2.12.24."
It was not lost on some that Woods may have missed a trick by announcing a brand called Sunday Red on a Monday.
Still, the pending announcement got his legion of fans hyped.
