Donald Trump has been ridiculed by golf fans for his comments about late great golf legend Arnold Palmer during a rally speech on Saturday.

Trump, 78, spoke about Palmer during his latest U.S. Presidential rally speech in Latrobe, Pennsylvania.

Palmer was born in Pennsylvania in 1929 and he died aged 87 on 25 September 2016.

The man nicknamed The King is rightly considered one of the greatest golfers of all time with seven major titles to his name.

He won The Masters four times, the US Open once and The Open twice.

But he narrowly came up shy of the career grand slam with three runner-up finishes at the US PGA.

Palmer also won 62 PGA Tour titles, ranking him fifth in the all-time list.

The King did great work both on and off the course and many consider the sport and professional game would not be where it is today without him.

Trump, an avid single-figure handicapper himself, paid tribute to Palmer in his latest rally spech.

But it was his bizarre choice of comments about Palmer's package that raised plenty of eyebrows.

Trump said of Palmer: "When he took showers with the other pros, they came out of there and said “Oh my God, that's unbelievable!"

In August, Trump also piled praise on English golf legend Sir Nick Faldo during his a rally in Montana.

Six-time major champion Faldo, 67, attended Trump's rally alongside his fourth wife Lindsay De Marco, 61, a former topless dancer who is an ardent Republican supporter and die-hard MAGA fan.

During Trump's speech, he labelled Faldo as a 'major friend of mine' and Lindsay as 'his beautiful wife'.

He then floated the idea that Faldo could come and join his government should he get re-elected later in three months' time.

Faldo then hit back at that claim.
