LIV Golf has been dealt a hammer blow to its free streaming service after one of its providers, Caffeine TV, confirmed it has shut down with immediate effect.

Caffeine TV, which labelled itself as 'the home of live sports and community', served as one of LIV's free first-round streaming services.

The brand was setup in 2018, and it joined forces with LIV Golf at the start of 2024.

LIV Golf said at the time of its deal with Caffeine TV that the streaming service 'boasted a younger, more diverse audience than many traditional broadcast platforms'.

The breakaway Saudi-backed league added in February 2024: "Caffeine TV has already produced notable exposure for the league, its tournaments, and original programming that has appeared on the platform since the start of the 2024 season.'

However, the deal lasted less than six months.

Other live sports covered by Caffeine included basketball, combat and football.

Caffeine TV's reason for shutting down with immediate effect on Wednesday 26 June was down to a lack of profitability

That is despite growing to 61m monthly users and 4m per day.

It's not all doom and gloom for LIV's Friday coverage as they will continue to provide action on The CW App and LIV Golf Plus.

No subscription is needed for The CW App.

Saturday and Sunday coverage of LIV events will also remain aired in the USA on The CW, The CW App and LIV Golf Plus.

The update of Caffeine pulling the plug on their free streaming service comes two weeks before the next LIV event in Andalucia, Spain.

LIV tournaments are also broadcasted globally on LIV Golf Plus, the LIV Golf YouTube channel and on more than 20 international broadcast partners.
