Furious Jon Rahm slams 'source' in extraordinary rant about LIV Golf rumour

Former world number one Jon Rahm has blasted the media for portraying that he is 'unhappy' in the LIV Golf League after he left the PGA Tour.

Jon Rahm says there is 'zero validity' to the rumour that he wants to give back his LIV Golf money and rejoin the PGA Tour

The claim was made in a Golf Digest feature earlier in the month in which a 'tour insider' was quoted as saying that the Spaniard is miserable with his decision to join the breakaway.

Rahm joined LIV last December for an astronomical sum of money and at times his comments about his decision coupled with his performances in the majors have led to speculation he's unhappy.

For example, Rahm complained about missing certain PGA Tour events, implored his new tour to change format and on more than one occasion was filmed getting angry with spectators at LIV events.

Rahm told the New York Post there was 'zero truth' to the claim.

"There's zero validity to what any of that said," he said.

"I don't know where it came from.

"I don't know why they feel the need to say that some of us are unhappy when we're not.

"It's one of the things that frustrates me a little bit, the fact that they can claim that there's a source and there's zero truth to it."

Rahm added: "I'm very comfortable with my decision, very happy with my decision, very, very eager for the future of my team and the league.

"I get to be a part of something very different to what we had in the past.

"I always enjoyed being part of a team and to be in charge of one now is something incredible."

What next for Jon Rahm?

Rahm only has two more LIV events to play for the remainder of the 2024 season.

He trails Joaquin Niemann in the individual standings and his aforementioned Legion XIII are also in the mix to claim the team honours.

After LIV's season concludes, Rahm will turn his attentions to playing on the DP World Tour to fulfil his obligations to be eligible for Ryder Cup selection.

He needs to play a minimum of four events on the circuit.

Earlier in the week, European captain Luke Donald issued a direct message to Rahm.

"I know he's planning on playing a few more events over the next few months," Donald said.

"It's quite clear with the policy that you either pay the fines or you can appeal them, and within that appeal time you can still play some DP World Tour events, so Jon absolutely knows what is required.

"He wants to play a few events and be eligible.

"I hope he does either pay the fines, or appeals and becomes eligible for my team because I would dearly love to have him be a part of that."
