Expected LIV Golf signing confirms 'talks' with multiple teams ahead of 2025
After narrowly missing out on a golden ticket to the LIV Golf League next season, John Catlin admits he's close to joining a team in 2025.
John Catlin may have narrowly missed out on receiving a golden ticket onto the LIV Golf League for 2025 earlier this month, but the American is very much expected to still pick up a team ahead of the new season.
Catlin, 34, seemed like something of a lock to finish top of the Asian Tour's International Series having held the lead for a large part of the season.
But the American stumbled coming home with finishes of 95th, 19th and 34th in the last three events.
Although Catlin did enough to be crowned Order of Merit champion on the Asian Tour for 2024, he ended up finishing fourth in the International Series Rankings.
LIV Golf superstar Joquin Niemann ended up winning the Saudi International to take the International Series.
It meant no golden ticket for Catlin, or anyone for that matter since Niemann is already a LIV Golf player.
But all is not lost for Catlin, who will now head to the 2024 LIV Promotions event in Saudi Arabia from 12-14 December.
The winner of that three-day event will pick up a lucrative spot on the LIV Golf League for 2025.
By the sounds of it though, Catlin may not even need to worry about his performance in Riyadh.
That's because he has told Mirror Sport he is in hot demand already from a number of LIV Golf League teams.
Catlin has already had a taste of LIV Golf having acted as a substitute player for several teams across six different events in 2024.
It would appear his performances not only on LIV Golf and the Asian Tour have gone unnoticed on the Saudi-bankrolled circuit.
"I have talked with a few teams so we will have to see where that falls," Catlin said to Mirror Sport.
When pressed further on how eager he is to pick up the No.1 spot from the LIV Promotions event this weekend, Catlin replied: "Yeah, big time. I got a taste for what LIV Golf is all about so there is definitely a lot of motivation coming in.
"I'm extremely hungry. It is such a cool format, a cool innovative thing for golf. We have never seen anything quite like it, and after seeing it and getting a taste for it, that is where I want to be."
Catlin had a successful 2024 as a Reserve Player on the LIV Golf League.
The California native was needed for six events and for three different teams.
Catlin filled in for the injured Charles Howell III on Crushers GC during four tournaments and his best finish was a T7 at LIV Golf Nashville.
In those four events, Crushers GC finished T4, T2, T2 and solo third.
At LIV Golf Greenbrier, Catlin stepped in for Graeme McDowell of Smash GC and played a key role in the team's victory.
Catlin concluded the season filling in for Legion XIII Captain Jon Rahm at the Team Championship in Dallas, where Rahm was battling an illness.
On Sunday when all players' scores counted, Catlin shot 2-under 70 (the second-lowest score of the team's four players) to help Legion XIII to a fourth-place finish.
Catlin will be unable to compete on Crushers GC and Smash GC in 2025 since both captains Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka have finalised their teams for next season.
There is still a place available on Rahm's Legion XIII, however.
There are a number of other LIV Golf teams that have yet to announce their four-man rosters for 2025, so we'll just have to wait and see where Catlin ends up.
