Brooks Koepka makes Bryson DeChambeau claim ahead of McIlroy, Scheffler clash

'Did we just become best friends?' Brooks Koepka poses the question to Bryson DeChambeau ahead of PGA Tour vs LIV Golf clash.

Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau becoming best mates would not have been on too many golf fan bingo cards when they publicly fell out a few years ago, but times have very much changed.

Koepka's apparent dislike of DeChambeau came to light at the 2021 US PGA.

The five-time major champion rolled his eyes during an interview as DeChambeau walked around him.

The duo then exchanged social media barbs for the remainder of the season.

But three years on, and Koepka and DeChambeau are seemingly the very best of friends.

A relationship that has certainly moved forwards since they both joined LIV Golf in 2022.

Koepka made his latest feelings be known about DeChambeau when replying to his tweet about 'The Showdown'.

That is a match that will see the LIV Golf duo go up against PGA Tour superstars Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler on Tuesday 17 December at Shadow Creek in Nevada.

DeChembeau tweeted: 'It’s official, Brooks and I will be taking on Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlory in a 18 hole match on December 17th. This is going to be one for the ages!"

Koepka replied: 'Did we just become best friends?'

Earlier this week LIV Golf posted official confirmation of the match with a preview video.

The Showdown comes at a time where the professional game is appearing to edge ever nearer to some sort of unification again.

That's after the emergence of the Saudi-bankrolled LIV Golf League that was set up in 2022.

LIV Golf has since taken some of the PGA Tour's top talents, none bigger than Jon Rahm, Koepka and DeChambeau.

McIlroy admits The Showdown is a 'goodwill event' designed to bring the best together again.

"I'm thrilled to partner with Scottie in what promises to be an exciting duel against Bryson and Brooks in Vegas this December," said McIlroy.

"This isn't just a contest between some of golf's major champions, it's an event designed to energise the fans.

"We're all here to put on a great show and contribute to a goodwill event that brings the best together again."

Scheffler is currently the World No.1 whilst McIlroy has been dethroned in second by Xander Schauffele after the American won two major titles this summer.

Koepka has slipped to 65th in the Official World Golf Rankings whilst DeChambeau, who won the 2024 U.S. Open, is ninth.

All four players have a combined 13 majors between them.
