Masters champion disappoints golf fans by missing home events for third time in 24 years
Former Masters champion Adam Scott has turned down the chance to compete in his home tournaments.
Former Masters champion Adam Scott will miss out on competing in all of the upcoming Australian tournaments on the schedule for just the third time in 24 years, it has been confirmed by Australian Golf Digest.
Scott, 44, has enjoyed a solid season on the PGA Tour and as a result has moved back inside the world's top 20.
The former World No.1 also continued his impressive streak of playing in 93 consecutive majors.
But the popular Australian has sadly had to disappoint his home fans this month by not participating in any of the remaining Australian events in 2024.
It marks the third time in just 24 years that Scott will not be competing in the two Australian 'majors' - the Australian PGA (21-24 November) and Australian Open (28 November-1 December).
Both of those tournaments are co-sanctioned with the DP World Tour.
Scott told Australian Golf Digest he wants to ''spend some quality time with my family and get some rest."

“Throughout my career I have always done my best to come back to Australia to compete in at least some of our great local events,” Scott told Australian Golf Digest.
“This year will be an exception, as I need to spend some quality time with my family and get some rest.
“I’m delighted to see that there are quality fields for our premier events. I wish all participants the best of luck, and I am sure the tournaments will be very successful.
“Even though I won’t be there this year I thank all the sponsors for supporting Australian golf”.
PGA of Australia chief executive Gavin Kirkman said: “While we would love to see him again in 2024, we fully appreciate and respect why he won’t be returning to Australia this summer after successful campaigns on all tours and the Presidents Cup.’
Thankfully Australian golf fans will get to see their own Cameron Smith tee it up in all of the upcoming tournaments.
The LIV Golf star is even playing in this week's Queensland PGA Championship.
“I spoke to Adam a lot throughout the year, and I think his great play towards the end of the year probably led to a few more events than he wanted to play, and to have some time off is always a good thing,” Smith told Australian Golf Digest of Scott's decision to sit on the sofa.
“It's always nice to have him back down here, but at the same time, he’s earned his rest, and I’m sure he’ll be back down here in the future to support again.”
PGA Tour star and former World No.1 Jason Day will return for the Australian PGA but he has declined the chance to compete in the Australian Open.
“It’s been about 123 years since he’s been back,” Smith joked.
“It’ll be good fun. He’s a good lad, a great golfer and playing really good golf at the moment, so it’s awesome to play against those guys every time you can.”
