PING Glide 4.0 Wedge Review: "Incredibly forgiving"
GolfMagic assesses the performance of the new PING Glide 4.0 wedge.
PING Glide 4.0 Wedge - Key Features
- Soft 8620 Carbon Steel Body / CTP Insert: provides a soft and responsive feel for more control around the greens.
- Precision Milled / Textured Face: generates more predictable spin and launch performance in wet or dry conditions.
- Hydropearl 2.0 Finish: ensures better contact and control with the ball in wet conditions.
GolfMagic Equipment Editor Alex Lodge took the new PING Glide 4.0 wedges to Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate to assess their feel, performance and forgiveness.
And it's safe to say he was highly impressed by them, testament to them finishing well up the board in our latest Best Golf Wedges buyer guide.
Based on the performance of these wedges, we were immediately inclined to judge them as the best that PING has produced in their illustrious history.
We point to the PING Glide Forged Pro wedges as a significant point in the company's wedge timeline too.
Many pros on the PGA Tour put these in their bags and the Glide 4.0 clubs are just a continuation of this.

PING Glide 4.0 Wedges - Looks and Feel
One of the key features of this wedge is the Hydro Pearl finish, and first things first, it looks great.
It has a better player feel about it from the moment you pull it out of the box.
These PING wedges are made with a precision-machined face and grooves. The new textured face is meant to increase spin and consistency, with the larger activated elastomer insert softening the feel of the face.
One of the advantages of these PING Glide 4.0 wedges is their versatility and suitability for a wide range of golfers with four different grind options available. You can learn more about 'grinds' in our helpful golf wedges guide.
This is a significant change when compared to the Glide Forged Pro wedges. These were suited to Tour players and low amateurs, but PING has expanded its appeal with this new release.
The look of the PING Glide 4.0 wedges is aesthetically pleasing. They are a nice club to look down on at address, and they don't have such a large offset when compared to previous PING wedges.
The look of them rival the design of other wedges such as the Titleist Vokey SM9 and the TaylorMade MG3.
PING Glide 4.0 Wedges - Performance and Forgiveness
We found the PING Glide 4.0 wedges to be incredibly forgiving. Despite hitting some squiffy shots off the heel and the toe on full wedge shots into the green, Alex still noted good offline dispersion.
Alex experienced good consistency from short-range pitches, too.
This is why it is a wedge for every golfer because it forgives your ball-striking when it isn't quite on point.
Our video review above is also more evidence of the benefits of custom fitting.
Although the clubs perform well, they were tailored to Alex's swing in order to optimise his performance.
We were impressed with the spin rate of these wedges across a number of different shots such as from the fairway, the rough and the sand.
With the consistency of strike and the spin these wedges produce, we grew in confidence when attempting to play a number of different shots such as a bump-and-run or a one-hop-and-stop.
It was hard to fault the performance of this wedge.
Should you buy the PING Glide 4.0 Wedges?
We found it extremely difficult to find fault with the PING Glide 4.0 wedges.
From the centre of the fairway to the edge of the green, we were delighted with the consistent ball-striking that these clubs bring.
At £160, these wedges are not cheap to say the least, but when you combine the looks, feel, performance and versatility of these clubs, then you sort of being to understand the price tag.
The PING Glide 4.0 wedges have been constructed with precision and when you purchase them through a custom fitting, they are optimised to perform for your swing.
A very impressive wedge line from PING.
