Mizuno D201
Our 2013 review of ten of the latest golf balls under
Brand: Mizuno
Ball: D201
Construction: 2-piece
Dimples/pattern: 366
Cover: Ionomer
Best price: £18
Summary: D201 is a versatile, all-round ball utilising Mizuno’s Cavity Cross Core to reduce driver backspin but without impacting the traction of shorter, control based shots.
Appearance: Mizuno logo is a little too big and bold on the front, but the D201 stamp on the side aids neat alignment with two chevrons in each direction. We chose to tee up looking down on the D201 logo. 4
Feel: At the same time as Mizuno brought out its premium MP-S, the brand also released a cheaper ball designed for distance. But it's also managed to maintain its relatively soft feel, especially with the wedge. Putting felt firm yet easy to gauge pace. 7.5
Performance: Driver spin rates were low and about the norm with a wedge. Although driving distance was very strong, and particularly straight, we expected a little more from a ball that encompasses the impressive sounding Cross Core design. On a positive note we like the fact this ball is easy to manipulate in the air. 7.5
Verdict: Doesn't exactly take our breath away but it's a solid enough golf ball for the high capper, and all at an affordable price. 19
