PGA Tour pro Sahith Theegala hit one of the strangest shots of 2022 during the first round of the QBE Shootout.

This shot from the exciting prospect happened at the 18th hole at Tiburón Golf Course in Naples, Florida.

The club of choice was a gentle wedge and as you'd expect from Theegala he struck it crisp. It really was a towering shot. All over the flag.

At first glance, it looked like Theegala's golf ball landed very close, zipping backwards with a bit of spin.

But taking a look at the replay you can see that his Titleist Pro V1 actually clatters into the ball already on the green.

And it was Theegala's golf ball that went racing through the back. Pain.

The commentary team seemed absolutely stunned. "It hit the other ball! It hit the back of the other ball!"

"That is a terrible break! That is crazy!"

In the tournament itself, it was the pairing of Charley Hoffman and Ryan Palmer who held a two-stroke lead after the first round.

The duo combined for a 16-under 56 in the scramble format. The pairing didn't make a single bogey, notched three eagles and 10 birdies.

They are being trailed by the likes of Max Homa and Kevin Kisner

Earlier in the week Homa outlined an hilarious story about why he was ignoring Kisner's phone calls after the Presidents Cup.

They played alongside the pairing of LPGA Tour superstar Nelly Korda and Denny McCarthy.

Both players marvelled at Korda's skill, calling her the "Tiger Woods" of the LPGA Tour.

Kisner said of Korda:

"I think I called her the Tiger Woods of the LPGA Tour at one point. And then through about seven or eight holes I said she's hit every shot just like she wants to for eight holes. Like does she hit a bad shot? I have no idea, I've never seen her hit a bad shot. We were laughing all day."

Homa then added:

"It was a little bit outrageous"

The defending champions of the QBE Shootout are Kevin Na and Jason Kokrak. Both players now play in the LIV Golf League.

LIV commissioner Greg Norman usually hosts this event, but he has claimed he was asked not to be involved owing to his association with the breakaway tour.
