Tom Kim appoints Rickie Fowler's ex-caddie for Presidents Cup debut
Joe Skovron stopped caddying for Rickie Fowler before the FedEx Cup Playoffs in 2022, having carried for the popular American for 13 years.
Tom Kim is making his debut at the Presidents Cup this week and he has made a significant appointment to his bag in North Carolina.
Joe Skovron will caddie for Kim as he becomes the third-youngest player ever to compete at the event. He will have the mammoth task of earning points for a depleted International team at Quail Hollow.
This occasion marks a significant change for Skovron who caddied for five-time PGA Tour winner Rickie Fowler for 13 years. Their tenure together ended before the FedEx Cup Playoffs that have just gone.
Fowler and Skovron had a long-standing relationship that started in 2009. The pair grew up together in Southern California and they experienced much success on the PGA Tour together, as well as competing in three Presidents Cups and four Ryder Cups.
Skovron has now teamed up with one of the most exciting players in world golf. Kim incredibly won the Wyndham Championship after starting the tournament with a quadruple-bogey.
Having earned special temporary membership on Tour, the victory upgraded this to a full-time membership. He became the second-youngest winner on the Tour since the Second World War.
The 20-year-old from South Korea was one of the six automatic qualifiers in Trevor Immelman's side which has been weakened with the likes of Cameron Smith, Joaquin Niemann and Louis Oosthuizen joining LIV Golf.
The experience of Adam Scott and Hideki Matsuyama, who have made 13 Presidents Cup appearances between them, will be crucial to guide the likes of Kim, Taylor Pendrith, Cam Davis and Christiaan Bezuidenhout against Davis Love III's American side.
"I wouldn’t say I’m a big trash-talker. I'm a jokester with the guys I’m close with. And the whole team, I feel like I have a really good relationship with," Kim said.
"So I just, as the youngest team member, you know, I just like to joke around a lot. I’m lucky enough that they don’t give me (expletive) for it. But I’m pretty fortunate."
