PGA Tour pro Daniel Berger goes back to 9-year-old TaylorMade irons!
Berger records his best finish in nearly a year after going back to his old TaylorMade irons.
Daniel Berger earned his best finish on the PGA Tour in nearly a year at the Phoenix Open on Sunday, and he did so by reverting back to a set of TaylorMade Tour Preferred MC irons that were launched back in 2011.
Berger, 26, ended up in a tie for ninth at TPC Scottsdale following rounds of 69, 70, 66 and 67 to close out his best finish at a PGA Tour event since finishing tied second at the Puerto Rico Open last February.
The two-time PGA Tour winner and 2015 PGA Tour Rookie of the Year recently came out of his equipment contract with Callaway and decided to mix up his bag ahead of the Phoenix Open following just two top-20 finishes in his first six starts of the 2019/20 PGA Tour season.
The Tour Preferred MC irons have proven one of the best player iron designs in TaylorMade's history with a clean, classic and manoeuvrble shape forged of 1025 carbon steel.
From testing these back in the day, we remember them to deliver the feel and workability of a forging plus a degree of added stability.
Berger, now an adidas Golf ambassador, is still using a remainder of Callaway clubs in his bag for the time being with an Epic Flash driver, Apex 3-iron and MD4 wedges, along with his traditional Odyssey putter.
You rarely see too many Tour players go back this far for a set of irons, but the exception was last year when Steve Stricker used a set of Titleist irons launched in 2006 en route to capturing the 2019 US Senior Open.
The one disclaimer to all this, according to an article on Golf WRX, is that his TaylorMade Tour Preferred MC irons in question appear to be a new old stock so they have likely been built specifically at his requests.
