PGA Tour pro Cameron Davis left PERPLEXED with "weird" tee shot at CJ
PGA Tour pro Cameron Davis hit a tee shot that was so bad during the third round of the CJ Cup that his golf ball didn't even reach the fairway.
Cameron Davis will more than likely admit this was one of the worst tee shots he has ever hit on the PGA Tour.
Our scene was Congaree Golf Club during the third round of the CJ Cup in South Carolina.
Playing the 18th hole, which is a par-4 dogleg right measuring at 439 yards, you'd chance your arm that Davis - heck any pro - would have less than 213 in playing their second shot.
Davis, who was part of Trevor Immelman's International side at the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club, did something we rarely see.

The 27-year-old Australian elected for a fairway metal for his tee shot. He was attempting to put his tee shot left of the water and open up the green.
Reader, he did not do this.
He hit - we estimate - about two inches behind the golf ball which immediately resulted in a huge puff of sand as Davis finished his swing one-handed.
Unfortunately, there is no video. But this picture tells a story:
His ball didn't even reach the fairway!
It happens. Perhaps he was putt off by playing partner Kurt Kitayama, who also hit a similarly dismal tee shot before he teed up his golf ball.
Kitayama hit his tee shot way, way right. So much so, it landed next to the truck where the commentators were situated. Immelman gave the viewers a little wave.
This was Kitayama's effort:
"You don't see that very often from world-class players," the announcer Steve Sands said on the Golf Channel broadcast of the tee shot from Davis.
Added Immelman: "Oooh man, he hit about two inches behind the ball. That was a little weird, wasn't it?!"
Davis left himself 213 yards to the pin. There was a huge clump of grass between ball and clubface but he still elected to take the shot on, aiming way left of the green and attempting to fade it back to the flag.

His second shot did in fact end up left of the green and he played a poor chip, eventually two-putting for a bogey to leave him at 8-under par for the championship and five strokes back of leader Rory McIlroy.
As for Kitayama, he did a little bit better and navigated a par despite his wild tee shot.
