DP World Tour pro HITS OUT at NO CUTS decision on PGA Tour and LIV Golf
DP World Tour pro Eddie Pepperell reveals why both the PGA Tour and LIV Golf should rethink their 'no cut' strategy moving forwards...
DP World Tour winner Eddie Pepperell has gone on a Twitter rant after learning the PGA Tour has reportedly signed off on changes that will see some of their 2024 elevated events played with smaller fields and without a cut.
While the latest bombshell news has been met with heavy criticism by a number of LIV Golf players, it is the latter part of the decision by erasing a cut in certain tournaments that irates Pepperell the most.
"It's one of the worst things to happen to the game in the last 12 months," tweeted Pepperell.
In the eyes of Pepperell, who has endured something of a rollercoaster career on the former European Tour circuit, making a halfway cut can sometimes feel like a "mini win" for some players who are struggling with their games.
LIV Golf also operates without a cut, albeit as 54-hole events rather than a standard 72.
Pepperell enjoyed his breakthrough season on the DP World Tour back in 2018 when winning twice in the space of eight months.
But since then, the wins have dried up for him and he currently looks on from the 238th rung on the world ladder after missing the last four cuts on the DP World Tour.
Pepperell believes "missing cuts is essential for growth as a professional golfer" and that just making a cut "when your back is against the wall", something he is desperately trying to do himself this season, "can breed great things."
Here's Pepperell's Twitter rant in full:
A year on in 2019, thanks in part to those two good performances in Scotland, I recall playing poorly in both the WGC’s in Mexico and Memphis, and not caring about anything during the final round.

So whether it’s LIV or now the PGA Tour, as someone who has played competitively for years now, removing the cut is one of the worst things to happen to the game in the last 12 months.
Rant over.— Eddie Pepperell (@PepperellEddie) March 1, 2023
