Jason Day: I felt "absolutely hammered" after Arnold Palmer drink

Jason Day has enjoyed plenty of celebratory drinks in recent years. None more so than the one he sank in Arnold Palmer's living room at Bay Hill straight after his victory last year. 

Day, 29, won the first of three titles on the PGA Tour last season at the Arnold Palmer Invitational with a narrow one-shot triumph over American Kevin Chappell. 

But don't ask the now 10-time PGA Tour winner and world number two about what happened immediately afterwards.

“I felt like I was drinking a whole bottle of Ketel One, because that’s obviously his favorite thing,” said Day.

“I was on the Golf Channel (later) and felt absolutely hammered. I was sitting down and I’m dehydrated, I had a drink with him, and I’m going up there and I don’t know what I’m saying on the Golf Channel, but hopefully it turned out something decent.

“We had a special moment at his place and just winning this tournament, because it’s such a big event for us.” 

While recent form has been a little rusty for Day with just one top-10 finish in four starts on the PGA Tour this season, ranking him 98th in the season-long FedEx Cup standings, the omens of a successful defence at Bay Hill appear promising.

Loren Roberts defended the title in 1995, and then Tiger Woods performed the feat in 2001, 2002 and 2003, before doing it once more in 2013 for a record eighth win in the tournament.

Even little-known Matt Every secured back-to-back titles in 2014 and 2015 - marking his only career PGA Tour wins to date. 

It will be no simple task for the Australian this week, however, with the likes of Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson, Hideki Matsuyama and Justin Rose in the field.
