Get to Leeds this weekend!

If you are in the Leeds area at the weekend, get yourslef along to Alwoodley golf course and watch the best Amateur ladies take on the cream of the Ladies European Tour.

The practice round begins on Friday at around 2pm and the matches, a 36 hole challenge match begins on Saturday morning at 0800hrs.

Dale Reid, the captain of last year’s triumphant Solheim Cup side, is one of the twelve Evian Tour professionals selected to play in the match against the Ladies’ Golf Union Great Britain and Ireland Elite Squad for the Weetabix Challenge Trophy at The Alwoodley Golf Club on Saturday 21st April.

Following her team’s success at Loch Lomond, Reid will be in no mood to add a rare blemish to her career with anything other than a convincing win for her professional team-mates. And with nine of the team which beat the LGU Select 9½ - 8½ last year at Ganton again selected plus newcomers Corrine Dibnah, Alison Munt and Joanne Mills, the amateurs will have a difficult task to stop the professionals’ run of recent wins.

GB&I Captain Claire Dowling is convinced that last year’s narrow defeat can be reversed.

“We have a very strong squad with six experienced players and six talented youngsters and while we have a difficult task to turn round last year’s defeat, it is not impossible. The standard to which the professionals now play is very impressive so it should be an interesting match.”

Rebecca Hudson, the Ladies’ British Match Play and Stroke Play Champion, Emma Duggleby, Becky Brewerton and Kim Andrew, all members of the 2000 Curtis Cup squad which so nearly defeated the USA at Ganton, form the nucleus of the amateur side. While Alison Coffey, the Irish Champion and 2000 winner of the Irish Order of Merit and Eleanor Pilgrim, winner of the Welsh equivalent underline the strength of the 12 strong Elite Squad.

The foursomes start at 8.00 a.m. and the singles at 1.00 p.m. with entry for spectators and car parking free of charge.
