Martin Kaymer FORCED OUT of LIV Golf League opening event in Mexico
Former World No.1 Martin Kaymer has been forced to withdraw from the opening event of the LIV Golf League season in Mexico.
German Martin Kaymer has been forced to withdraw from the opening LIV Golf League event in Mexico through injury.
The injury blow was confirmed via an official post from the Cleeks GC social media page.
Kaymer has been replaced by England's Laurie Canter. It is unknown what injury Kaymer is struggling with.
The former World No.1 last played in a LIV Golf event in October 2022 at their invitational in Bangkok.
The 38-year-old was also forced to miss out in LIV's $25m event in Jeddah, won by Brooks Koepka, and the $50m team championship at Trump National Doral in Miami.
Kaymer has previously spoken of wrist issues.
The news of Kaymer's late withdrawal comes as:
- LIV Golf have finally landed their first global sponsor
- New LIV Golf signing Thomas Pieters has claimed he's not given up on the Ryder Cup
- A U.S judge has dealt LIV Golf another legal disappointment
Kaymer has not fared well on the course with LIV Golf. His best result came when he finished T-11 in Bedminster, New Jersey.
The German is not the only LIV player to have suffered an injury setback.
Just this week, Hudson Swafford confirmed he was having surgery that would result in him likely being out of action for six months.
"I made a decision"
In December, Kaymer explained his decision to join LIV Golf by saying he 'needed something new'.
He has accepted whatever happens, though.
He told BBC Radio 5 Live:
