Daniel Brooks: A great week on Tour is around the corner
European Tour ace on bouncing back, impressive irons & Jose jubilation
It's been a couple of months since my last tour diary entry, so I thought I would check in with some details of my recent events.
After finishing in and around the top 40 in Sweden, Austria and Germany, I unfortunately went on to miss the cut at both the Open de France and Scottish Open.
I have played pretty consistently of late, having only missed one cut in 10 events, but I've just not quite managed to shoot low enough scores on the weekends to push myself up into the top 20 on a weekly basis.
I know my consistency will start to pay off soon, I've just got to keep at it. Thankfully I've now got a few weeks off so it will be nice to get some good practice time in at home with my coach and get the game in good shape heading into a long stretch of tournaments starting next month.
It will also be nice to just recharge the batteries for a couple of weeks, having been on the road for six out of seven weeks. I'm looking forward to spending as much quality time as possible with my fiancee Hannah and our daughter Bella. It will also be nice to catch up with some friends back home in Essex who I've not seen in a while, as too, many members of Mill Hill Golf Club.
I honestly believe if I continue playing the way I have so far this year, there is a really great week just around the corner. It’s just a case of staying patient and waiting for those good weeks to come. You can’t force it.
As I write this entry, I am currently ranked 101st in the Race to Dubai standings. My goals have not really changed since the beginning of the season, but obviously the primary target is to retain my card.
I would also like a big push to get into the top 60 so I can play in the season-ending DP World Tour Championship. That's something I know I can achieve if I play to my potential in the remaining events.
Of the tournaments coming up over the next couple of months, I must admit I'm most looking forward to the British Masters at The Grove. It’s about as local as a European Tour event could be for me, I know the course pretty well and I should have some good support out there. It promises to be an exciting week.
As for equipment changes, I have recently put a set of TaylorMade PSi Tour irons in play. These were a really easy transition to make so I'm delighted with that change. The TaylorMade M2 driver is also still going well.
Before I sign off, many of you will know I'm an avid Manchester United fan and I cannot wait for the new season to begin following the arrival of Jose Mourinho and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
After the disappoinment of the Euros from an English perspective, it will be nice to watch some decent football again. I'm particularly looking forward to the Manchester rivalry between Jose and Pep Guardiola.
That's about it for this month's report, but thanks for the continued support and I will check back in with you next month.
