Pros
Terrific feel; plenty of greenside spin with the wedges; pleasing low spin numbers with the driver; a great golf ball to improve your alignment on the greens, it's like a golf training aid
Cons
Colour combination is not for us, we think the colours need to be more contrasting; durability not as strong as we'd have liked

Srixon Z-Star Divide Golf Ball 2023 - Key Features

  • New FastLayer DG Core: starts soft in the centre and dramatically becomes firm around its edge, giving high-speed players exceptional feel and plenty of ball speed for maximum distance.
  • New Spin Skin+: A durable coating that digs deep into your grooves, maximizing spin for better control and stopping power.
  • Speed Dimple: Less drag and more lift boosts overall distance and flies straight, even in the toughest wind conditions.
  • Divide Line: Perfect for alignment on the greens

Srixon is not messing around when it comes to producing some of the best golf balls in 2023, and that is all thanks to its revamped Z-Star range.

Of the biggest changes to the latest Z Star golf ball family is a new Spin Skin+ coating that is said to maximize your spin for better control and stopping power into the green.

Now Srixon is not claiming their new Z Star balls travel any further this time around, but they do claim improved overall performance when it comes to spin and durability, so we were very keen to put this to the test both in the studio and out on the golf course.

Srixon tells us the Z-Star Divide golf ball features a 10% lower compression than the Z-Star XV golf ball, which means it should be easier to strike with the irons as the cover can get more into the grooves.

After being blown away the new Srixon ZX4 MKII irons, GolfMagic's Equipment Editor Alex Lodge took the new Z-Star Divide golf ball out for a spin to test its performance, and most importantly, see whether the new Divide line actually works on the green.

Player Level

The Srixon Z-Star Divide golf ball is best suited for players swinging more than 90mph with their driver. But anyone seeking improved alignment on the greens will benefit most from this one.

Srixon Z-Star Divide Golf Ball - Looks

As you can see, the Z-Star Divide Golf Ball has some of the most eye-catching looks when it comes to a premium golf ball in 2023.

Srixon has only launched one colour combination of white and yellow halves on its Divide ball, and we would like to see that change moving forwards.

It's a very glossy finish, and while looks are a personal preference, we weren't particularly taken by the choice of white vs yellow.

If we could make one improvement to this ball, it would be the colour of it. We believe the colours need to be a more contrasting to make the divide much more noticeable.

But otherwise, the ball stamping looks great, just as we have come to expect from the successful Z-Star line by Srixon.

Srixon Z-Star Divide Golf Ball - Feel and Performance

The feel of the Z-Star golf ball is superb, certainly right up there with the finest feel we have experienced from a premium golf ball.

The standard version of the Z-Star golf ball is 100% a golf ball that we would have no issues sticking straight in our bag this season.

It's soft, has plenty of zip around the greens, possesses good ball speed figures across the board and thankfully a nice low spin with the driver (2200 RPM).

Our iron shots were spinning a little higher with the irons than some other golf balls we've been testing this season, but overall, shots felt great.

Shots inside that 100-yard mark and around the greens felt terrific. The Z-Star's new Spin Skin+ coating certainly makes a big difference in regards enhancing more greenside spin.

So feel and performance wise, this golf ball is nailed down. The numbers don't lie.

While we didn't particularly gel with the colour combination of the Divide, we can see the benefits of the line and why Srixon have brought it into play with this golf ball family for 2023.

By having this feature on the golf ball, it works perfectly to aid better alignment on the greens.

We felt like it's a golf training aid in that sense, simply because you can see if you are striking the golf ball straight and square to your target line.

In terms of durability, we noted a few scuffs on the ball after about 20 hits with the driver, but it was nothing too concerning.

Should you buy the Srixon Z-Star Divide Golf Ball?

We would certainly recommend taking a closer look at all of the new Z-Star balls for 2023 as the feel and performance is hard to fault. There are a number of different Z-Star models to choose from this season, and you can check them out in more detail here

This golf ball performs extremely well through the bag, especially off the tee with the driver with some ideal low-spin numbers, and it generates plenty of spin to keep us excited with the scoring clubs.

The Divide line will divide opinion, though.

Our personal preference would be to use the standard Z-Star model without the Divide line involved, but if you seek improved alignment and want to see if you're rolling your putts straight and true, then this is one for you.
