US Open: How much did each player win in Brookline?
Matt Fitzpatrick picked up a whopping $3.15 million for picking up his first major title after a titanic battle with Will Zalatoris in Brookline.
The 2022 US Open was one of the best golf tournaments we've had the pleasure of watching in a while and it culminated in Matt Fitzpatrick's first major win.
And how he deserved it. The same could also be said for Will Zalatoris who has now finished runner-up in two of the three majors played this year.
A key turning point came on the 15th hole. Despite a rare wayward tee shot, Fitzpatrick found the heart of the green on this long par-4 with 225 yards for his second shot at The Country Club.
Zalatoris, still looking for his first PGA Tour win, found the greenside bunker and he couldn't get up and down. The Englishman rolled in a nerveless birdie putt to move two shots clear on 6-under.
Scottie Scheffler was still putting up a fight by birdieing the 17th hole, but he could only par the last hole for a 67 and he fell one shot short on 5-under.

After hooking his 72nd tee shot into the fairway bunker, it looked as though Fitzpatrick would have to pitch out and play for a bogey, but he hit the most incredible sand shot to the heart of the green and two-putted for the win with a 68 on the day.
The 27-year-old picked up $3.15 million for his troubles. The USGA increased the purse from $12.5 million at Torrey Pines in 2021 to $17.5 million last week in Boston.
