Amateur shoots 62 at US Open qualifier then DQs himself!
Amateur shoots incredible 62 to win a US Open local qualifier, then disqualifies himself straight away!
A fifth-year senior at the University of Illinois shot a course record during a US Open local qualifier, but disqualified himself from the event shortly after, thus ending his major championship hopes on Monday.
Tommy Kuhl, from Illinois, was playing in a US Open local qualifier at Illini Country Club in Illinois, according to a story from Ryan French/Monday Q Info.

I was afraid I had another cheating scandal on my hands. I couldn't have been more wrong. This is a story about honesty, integrity, and the..https://t.co/wrVyFk8cLK— Monday Q Info (@acaseofthegolf1) May 9, 2023
He shot a 10-under 62 to qualify and notch the course record along the way.
He, along with some friends, then proceeded to watch university teammate Adrien Dumont De Chassart in a playoff in an attempt to earn his own spot.
However, that's when things began to unravel for Kuhl.
A different teammate spoke about the difficulties of the aerated greens they'd been playing on, which is when Kuhl realized his mistake.
Kuhl had fixed the aeration marks on the green throughout his round, which is not allowed.
According to Monday Q Info, Kuhl immediately found a rules official when he realized his mistake, and was later disqualified as a result.
He was also apparently not the only player to have not realized the rule during the round, as some marks are permitted to be fixed, but aerated ones are not.
Kuhl's disqualification did, however, allow Dumont De Chassart to earn a spot without the playoff.
This year's US Open is set to be held at The Los Angeles Country Club in California from 15-18 June.
Matt Fitzpatrick is the defending champion after he earned his maiden major victory on the final hole by one stroke over Scottie Scheffler and Will Zalatoris last year.
Zalatoris is another person who won't have a shot at the US Open this year, as the American was ruled out of the rest of the season earlier this season following back surgery.
