Xander Schauffele outlines his plan to topple Scottie Scheffler in 2025: "I feel like I can get him"
Xander Schauffele has outlined how he plans to close the gap on Scottie Scheffler after the PGA Tour season came to a conclusion at East Lake.
Xander Schauffele is already plotting his revenge on Scottie Scheffler after the conclusion of the PGA Tour season at East Lake.
Schauffele came into the Tour Championship hoping to wipe out Scheffler's two-shot lead and pip his Olympic teammate to the FedEx Cup title.
Had he done so, the argument as to who deserves to be crowned the player of the year might've looked significantly different.
Instead, Scheffler underlined his status as the best men's player on the planet right now and Schauffele had to settle for a share of fourth.
"I didn't really play great this week," Schauffele admitted to reporters on Sunday evening. "And my score showed that."
Scheffler became the first player since Tiger Woods in 2007 to claim seven PGA Tour victories in a single season.
He won four signature events, his second Masters title and an Olympic gold medal.
It certainly feels as though Scheffler is the best player since Woods' pomp.
That being said, Rory McIlroy, Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm all had their spells of dominance.

So what does Schauffele think?
"I think by the definition of dominance, I think that's literally where he's sitting," Schauffele said.
"I don't know how many weeks he's been the number one player in the world.
"Since I've been out, I think Dustin had a run, Brooks had a run, Jon had a run, Rory had a run.
"But they kind of -- they were kind of punching back and forth between one, two and three.
"Scottie has just been at the tip-top of the mountain for, what, two full years now it seems."
This was Scheffler's 65th week in a row at the top of the world rankings.
So what can Schauffele do in 2025 and beyond? Is there one aspect from his game that he would like? How can he close the gap?
Schauffele said: "I've got to look at the stats -- when I'm driving it well, I feel like I can get him.
"But overall I'd say he's probably got me in driving. Just his accuracy is really good when he needs to pick it up or drop the speed a little bit just to hit more fairways.
"I think this is a week that was like that. If you could kind of take some speed off just to hit a couple more fairways, it was something you're going to do.
"Kind of rock a fairway finder, whatever you need to do to keep the ball in the fairway.
"I mean, I was probably close to last place in fairways hit on a property that's got brand new greens. I'm never going to sniff having a chance."
Schauffele will next be in action at the forthcoming Presidents Cup in Canada.
Team USA captain Jim Furyk and his International counterpart Mike Weir will name their captain's picks on 3 September.
Schauffele will likely make his next PGA Tour start at the ZOZO Championship in Japan in October.
